Honoring mothers
On Mothers Day across our country mothers were honored. All sorts of mothers were rightly acknowledged for their great value, their sacrifices and their commitment to their families. Mothers, grandmothers, step-mothers and adoptive mothers were acknowledged and honored, but many other mothers were forgotten, and they were not often, if ever, mentioned during Mothers Day.
Every year in our country there are tens of thousands of birth mothers who, when faced with an unplanned pregnancy and not being able to adequately care for their baby, have made the unselfish and courageous decision to nurture their baby through the pregnancy and then to give the infant to another mother to raise through adoption.
In my opinion, this is the ultimate expression of a mother’s love for her baby. Rather than make a decision of convenience, they acted selflessly and courageously to give life to their unborn child. I know a few of these mothers, and I know that they acted out of love for their child, and that even though they know they did the right thing, they carry the burden of missing their child for the rest of their life.
I think that these mothers should be honored for their selfless and courageous action. If you know one, give her a hug and let her know that she is honored among mothers.
