Whitefish battled but couldn’t get past the first day of play at the State A boys tennis tournament in Missoula last week.

Freshman Max Smyley lost a tough match in the first round 6-2, 7-6 (4) to Dillon’s Mark Waldrup. Smyley would rally for a win in the consolation round before getting eliminated.

Eric Holdhusen ran into favorite DJ Pekock of Corvallis in a 6-0, 6-0 defeat.

Doubles team Ryan Brown and Chaffin Ross also lost in the first round 6-2, 6-2 to a No. 1 team from Havre.

Whitefish finished with 2 points.
