The Whitefish softball team rallied for its first win of the season Monday in a thrilling 19-14 victory at Eureka.

Madison Davis went 3 for 7 at the dish and Halle Reading pitched four strong innings to lead the comeback effort.

“I told the girls that if we ever put together a full game, we’d get a win,” head coach Ron Stone said. “We did that Monday. The girls were just ecstatic.”

The win revenged a tough 20-10 loss to Eureka earlier this season.

Stone noted the play of Michaela McDowell at third base.

“We got outstanding defense from Michaela,” he said “She had an unassisted double play and was scooping up everything.”

Lauren McDonald came to the mound in relief to close out the win.

“It was a back and forth game,” Stone said. “The girls had to work for it.”“

Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going now that we got a taste of victory.”

The Lady Dogs battled with Libby for a few frames Friday in a Northwest A softball game at Smith Fields before the Loggers finally pulled away.

The Lady Dogs held Libby to one run in the first inning and just three in the second.

Libby posted nine runs in the third frame to extend the lead en route to a 19-1 victory.

Savannah Eisenbarth and Grace Porterfield tallied both of Whitefish’s hits.

The Lady Dogs couldn’t keep up with Columbia Falls on Saturday in a 20-1 conference loss.

Madison Davis had the team’s lone hit.

Whitefish is now 0-6 in the conference and 1-11 overall.

The final home game and senior day is May 16 at 3 p.m. at Smith Fields.
