Whitefish School District is asking voters to approve a $39,470 operations levy in the upcoming election.

The school board voted 6-1 on March 10 to run the elementary school levy. Trustee Shawn Tucker was the lone dissenting vote.

The school election is set for Tuesday, May 5.

The levy is expected to increase taxes on a $100,000 market value home by 93 cents. A $200,000 home would see an increase of $1.86 annually.

Board chairwoman Pat Jarvi supports the levy request and says the amount is equivalent to that of a teacher’s salary.

Voters last approved a $36,000 operations levy in 2013.
