A Whitefish man has returned to jail while he awaits trial for alleged sexual online conversations with a 14-year-old girl.

Caleb Joshua Davis, 25, was charged February 2014 with sexual abuse of children, a felony.

Davis was initially released on house arrest after initial court appearances. Two mental evaluations have been ordered, and the defense has tried to declare Davis unfit to proceed.

Last month, the prosecutor called on the court to issue an arrest warrant due to reports that Davis had been using drugs and alcohol. The report, issued by a case manager, cited concern for Davis and the risk of more offenses.

A warrant was issued and Davis was booked in the Flathead County Detention Center on Thursday. He is being held on $75,000 bond.

Davis has pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 6. Davis is still set to stand trial on July 6.
