Whitefish girls hoops coach Peters resigns
Whitefish girls basketball coach Clint Peters has stepped down after two seasons leading the varsity team.
Peters informed the team he was resigning after the Northwest A divisional tournament last weekend where the Lady Dogs finished in fourth place.
Peters said it was a tough decision, but that his work schedule with the Whitefish Police Department on top of basketball commitments had become a grind.
“I want to spend more time with my kids,” he said. “I’m getting about three to five hours of sleep a day between my work schedule, basketball and kids,” he said.
“I need to give the program to someone who has that extra time.”
Peters led the Lady Dogs to a 1-19 record in 2014 and a 3-18 record this season.
He previously served as assistant girls basketball coach and as an assistant for the boys team.
“It’s been a great seven years,” he said of his Whitefish coaching career.
Whitefish athletic director Aric Harris said Peters is leaving the program on an up swing.
“The team showed a lot of growth this year,” Harris said. “We were competitive. I’m proud of what I saw.”
Harris said the next coach will take the reins at a pivotal point in the program.
“We’re looking to hire someone long term,” Harris said. “We’re always looking for lifetime hires — that’s what builds programs.”
“This next hire is key.”
