Spend more time appreciating life

Like so many before me, I visited Whitefish/Big Mountain in 1998 and purchased a second home on the mountain. I have been getting the Pilot delivered to my Texas home ever since.

Last month, while in Whitefish, I had a sudden illness and was transported to North Valley Hospital via ambulance. Normally, hospital visits are highlighted by that ONE employee who goes above and beyond to provide kind, caring, efficient service. But during my day spent at NVH, ALL employees fit this description.

When released, my wife and I strolled through the facilities — wow — certainly something to be proud of.

We flew home the next day and per the ER doctor’s advice, I contacted a cardiologist – and was told I could get an appointment in six months. Shortly thereafter, I received a phone call from NVH advising they were just following up. I assumed it was just a clerical survey, but did explain my difficulty in getting an appointment. Much to my surprise, she asked for contact information to the cardiologist.

Long story short — she made multiple phone calls and faxed records to both my primary care physician and the cardiologist. I was seen a few days later and received a pacemaker.

Thinking back over 17 years of reading the Pilot, lets just say that the folks in Whitefish are active, vocal, and love to debate (e.g. doughnut, Central Avenue, zoning, signage, City Hall, parking and on and on).

I think debate is great, but here’s a thought for the day. Perhaps we should spend a little less time debating — and a little more time appreciating life, where we live, and the facilities available to us.
