Whitefish plans to tackle three years worth of street overlays this summer.

Streets or sections of streets that will be overlayed include Parkway Drive, Waverly Place, Patton Lane, State Park Road, Parkhill Drive, Third Street West, East Third Street, East Fourth Street, East Fifth Street, East Eighth Street, West 10th Street, West 13th Street, , Lupfer Avenue, Park Avenue and Voerman Road.

City Council on June 1 approved a contract with LHC Inc. for about $446,500 for the project. The project is expected to begin in June once school is out and be completed in 45 days.

“Quite a few streets are in bad shape,” interim Public Works Director Karin Hilding said. “We’re excited to do this.”

The overlay project will allow for the inclusion of 15 percent recycled asphalt in the asphalt mix that is applied to the streets.

The project is being funded through the city street maintenance fund. The city had budgeted $550,000 for the project.
