Deep pool of applicants for Whitefish School Board vacancy
Whitefish School District has fielded a deep pool of eight applicants to fill a vacancy on its school board.
Applicants Carol Atkinson, Anna Deese, Gerda Reeb and Lori Diane Marsh will be interviewed by the board on Monday Aug. 3 beginning at 7 p.m.
Applicants Gretchen Boyer, Nancy Olson-Streibich, Randy Carspecken and Eric Hosek will interview on Tuesday, Aug. 4 beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The appointed trustee will be selected during a special board meeting on Aug. 7. They will serve until the next school election in May of 2016.
Atkinson has served on numerous volunteer boards in Whitefish, including as president of the board for Whitefish Community Foundation. She currently serves on boards for the Whitefish Arts Council, Project K-12 Connect and the PAC steering committee.
Deese is the associate director of Project CRISS, which provides professional development and support for teachers. She previously was a teacher in Chicago, Florida and Oregon.
Reeb is a professor at Flathead Valley Community College. She is chair of the Title III steering committee at FVCC, and of the Early Alert committee at FVCC.
Marsh is a business and computer teacher at Columbia Falls High School and has lived in Whitefish for 10 years. She served on the Whitefish PTA board from 2005-09.
Boyer is the director of operations at the Montana Academy therapeutic boarding school in Marion. She has been a Whitefish resident for 21 years and has a child at Muldown Elementary.
Olson-Streibich has served on the Whitefish PTA, and on the boards of the Whitefish Theatre Company and Flathead Business and Industry Association.
Carspecken is a retired teacher who taught math and computer science at Whitefish High School from 1984-1995. He went on to teach overseas before returning to the U.S. to help start Sturgis Charter Public School in Massachusetts.
Hosek previously served two terms on the Whitefish School Board from 2005-2011. He has served on the Whitefish School District Education Foundation board since 2010. He is a financial advisor at D.A. Davidson and Co. in Whitefish.
