Green hired as WMS Dean of Students
Curtis Green has been hired to take on the newly created Dean of Students position at Whitefish Middle School.
The Whitefish School Board unanimously approved the hiring at their July 14 meeting.
Green is the boys basketball coach at Whitefish High School and worked at Muldown Elementary last school year as an educational support professional.
Middle school principal Josh Branstetter says Green’s role will be similar to an assistant principal, except that he won’t evaluate teachers.
“He will help promote a positive school climate,” Branstetter said. “He will help make the school an inviting place for kids to come and learn.”
The Dean of Students will handle discipline, help organize the intramural program and will connect with students at lunch and recess.
“A lot of what he will do is student-focused,” Branstetter said.
John Coyne previously split his time as assistant principal between the middle school and Muldown Elementary. This year, however, Coyne will be full time at Muldown, which created the need for the Dean of Students position.
“It was hard to have John here only half of the time,” Branstetter said. “Both schools were feeling the need for more support, and with the climbing enrollment at Muldown, the need there was evident.”
Branstetter said Green rose to the top among the pool of applicants.
“He relates well with students,” he said. “In the interview process, his ability to connect with students was evident.”
Green worked as a physical education teacher in Arizona before relocating to Whitefish last summer.
