Low scores at Fourth golf tourney

Washington golfer Bob Conrad carded a 14-under-par to easily win the 79th annual Earl Hunt Memorial Fourth of July golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Conrad posted a 7-under 65 to open the tourney and closed with a 66 to seal a victory in his first appearance at Whitefish’s largest tournament.

Conrad’s 202 was nine strokes better than runner-up Kalispell golfer Logan Lindholm’s 211. Libby High School freshman Ryggs Johnston placed third with a 212.

On the women’s side, Helena’s Darah Newell rallied on the final day to win by six strokes. Newell went 77-72-76 for a 225 total.

Whitefish was represented well in the home tourney.

Sam Krause carded a 219 to place in the top tier among men, along with Kyle Mossfeldt (222) and Arthur Doorn (225).

Shawn Tucker finished with a 226 after scoring a 2-under 70 on day 2.

Lady Bulldog standout Coral Schulz carded a 235 (78-77-80) to place fifth overall.
