10U All-Stars win Firecracker

| July 7, 2015 10:00 PM

The Whitefish 10U All-Star baseball team won Kalispell’s annual Firecracker baseball tournament last weekend. The win marks the third weekend in a row the team has notched a youth tournament championship.

After winning the Father’s Day Tournament in Whitefish, they went to Columbia Falls and won the Dick Lindsley Invitational before the Firecracker. The team now has a week off before the State Championship tournament July 16-19.

Whitefish has continued to improve their pitching and has benefitted from lively bats and timely hits from all players in the lineup at key times. Additionally, their pitching rotation is deep with five legitimate starters.

While their defense had not been tested much in the two tournaments leading into the Firecracker, they came up big on a number of key plays last weekend.

The team is 23-3 on the season and, remarkably, the three teams they beat on Sunday in Kalispell in the quarterfinals, semis and finals were the same three teams they had lost to earlier in the summer. Those teams were Southwest Alberta AAA (Lethbridge), Missoula Bandits, and North Valley All Stars (Bitterroot Valley) respectively.
