A desperate fourth-quarter rally wasn’t enough to lift the Whitefish girls basketball team in a 45-36 loss to Polson on Saturday.

A close Northwest A contest at halftime went south for the Lady Dogs as Polson went on a 14-4 run in the third to take a commanding lead into the final frame.

Haley Nicholson led a late comeback with a pair of nice three-pointers to narrow the final margin. The sophomore finished with 10 points.

The victory was Polson’s (1-2, 1-9) first of the season.

Whitefish’s Mariah Drown worked hard in the paint for seven points, and Anna Peterson added seven, as well.

Whitefish (0-4, 2-10) next hosts Bigfork on Thursday and Frenchtown in a conference contest on Saturday.
