Streibich leads Dogs past Lions

Whitefish senior Jack Streibich exploded for 27 points to lead the boys basketball team to a non-conference win at Eureka last week.

Streibich dominated in the post as Whitefish (4-5, 1-1) rolled to the 64-52 victory over the Class B Lions. AJ Wetsch chipped in with 14 for the Dogs.

On Friday night, Whitefish fell in overtime 54-49 at Class B Florence.

The Florence boys hit a free throw with six seconds remaining in regulation to send their nonconference contest to an extra period.

In overtime, Florence outscored the Bulldogs 7-2.

Cody Olson had a 14 points and Streibich had 11 for Whitefish.

Whitefish hosts Thompson Falls on Friday before turning its focus to a conference showdown on the road at rival Columbia Falls on Saturday.

The Wildcats (8-1, 3-0) come into the game as the top-ranked team in Class A.

The Cats are shooting 47 percent overall and 33 percent from deep. They have outscored opponents by an average of 17 points per contest.

Columbia Falls senior Ty Morgan leads the league in scoring, averaging 19.67 points a game.
