Lady Dogs drop two at home
The Whitefish girls basketball team dropped a pair of close non-conference contests last week despite solid scoring efforts.
The shooting touch that has recently evaded the Lady Dogs returned on Thursday against Eureka.
Freshman Dani Douglas put in 15 and Cailyn Ross added 13 to keep the Lady Dogs within reach. Whitefish’s fourth-quarter rally came up just short, as Class B Eureka held on for the 43-39 victory.
The scoring carried over to Friday’s contest with Florence. Whitefish led 15-12 after one period and took a four point lead into halftime.
Florence rallied to regain the lead in the third period and dominated the fourth to take the nonconference win 53-43.
Haley Nicholson led the Lady Dogs with 14 points, including a pair of treys.
Mariah Drown had seven of the Dogs’ 42 rebounds.
Whitefish (2-7, 0-2) travels to top-ranked Columbia Falls (9-0, 3-0) on Saturday.
