Buzzer-beater sinks Dogs on the road
The Whitefish boys basketball team suffered a pair of losses last week, no thanks to a cold shooting night and a half-court buzzer-beater.
On Friday at Bigfork, the Dogs were outscored 40-10 in the first half as the Vikings rolled to the 65-26 nonconference victory.
The Class B Vikings outrebounded Whitefish 35-15.
Cody Olson and Luke May each had nine points to lead the Dogs.
On Saturday at Frenchtown, Whitefish came out hot and opened a 17 point lead, only to let it slip away in the second half.
The Broncs rallied and won the Northwest A game 64-61 when Bridger Truett hit a 3-pointer from nearly half court with 1.2 seconds on the clock.
Cody Olson led Whitefish with 14 points. The senior hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 61-61 before Truett hit the game-winner.
Whitefish is now 1-1 in the league and 3-4 overall. The Dogs travel to Florence on Friday.
