Kirk Denis

Kirk Denis, 62, passed away on Feb. 10, 2015 of complications related to Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. He left this world surrounded by his beloved sister and brother-in-law, and attended to by the caring staff of Montana State Nursing Home in Lewistown.

Kirk was born Jan. 22, 1953 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., to Sid Denis Jr. and Merle (McKenzie) Denis. He grew up in Nekoosa, Wisc., where his family owned and operated a community drug store. He is survived by his son, Nikko Dennis; sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Gene Grandkoski; nephews, Jesse and Kyler Grandkoski and their families; step-mother, Laverne (Toots) Denis; step-siblings, Cindy Koopman, Kurt Knoll, Terry Knoll, Karen Kensel and their families; aunts, Lela Denis, Phyllis Moore, and Jean Opperman; and a number of cousins.

From a young age Kirk enjoyed football and most all outdoor activities. He was a lifelong Packer fan and gained great joy playing high school and junior college football. Additionally, he loved boating, water skiing, fishing, camping as well as downhill and cross-country skiing. During high school he competed with aqua (water) ski club. He also enjoyed spending time with extended family at the Denis family cottage in Coloma, Wisc.

Kirk married Bobbi Barry at the family cottage on July 26, 1979. Together they welcomed the birth of their son Nikko on Oct. 21, 1988. Though divorced, Kirk and Bobbi maintained a life-long friendship. Together Kirk and son Nikko enjoyed the above named activities, especially boating.

Kirk earned degrees and educational certificates from Mesabi State Junior College in Minnesota, Univeristy of Wisconsin Menomenee, and Boise I.T. Tech. He worked at R.M.D. Design, Litton Industries and in a variety of sales positions. He loved meeting new people and was known until the end for his warm smile and beautiful, engaging eyes.

Memories of Kirk may be sent to Deb and Gene Grandkoski, 120 Old Morris Trail, Whitefish MT 59937. A memorial gathering will take place at a later date where tributes and memories will be shared.
