A Whitefish man is denying charges that he stabbed another man after a late night argument in an alley behind a Central Avenue bar.

Angel William Perez, 21, pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a weapon Feb. 5 in Flathead County District Court.

Perez was arrested Jan. 17 at 3 a.m. downtown.

According to court documents, Whitefish Police officers responded to a report of an assault in the alley behind Crush Lounge.

Officers found a man bleeding with a large laceration on his left arm. The man told police Perez stabbed him.

In speaking with police, Perez allegedly confirmed that an argument took place in the alley and that he had a knife, but he denied any physical altercation.

Documents note that police observed spatters of blood on Perez’s forehead, left hand and shoes.

A jury trial is set for July 6 with Judge Heidi Ulbright presiding.

Perez faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
