Whitefish girls soccer coach Wendy Farrens has resigned from her post after four seasons leading the Lady Bulldogs.

Farrens was recently engaged and will be spending more time in the Seattle area, which forced her decision.

“It was a very tough call for her,” Whitefish athletic director Aric Harris said. “She struggled with it, but she knew she couldn’t be fully committed.”

The Lady Dogs made the playoffs each year under Farrens and played in the State A title game in 2013. Her overall career record was 36-17-3.

Farrens resignation comes in the same week Whitefish boys soccer coach O’Brien Byrd stepped down to take the coaching job at Columbia Falls.

“It’s always tough to lose good quality coaches,” Harris said. “But our kids know we’ll work to find strong replacements.”

Both soccer coaching positions will be open to applicants within the district for five days before being advertised out of the district, if needed, Harris said.
