Whitefish was 2-3 on the wrestling mat Friday following the Whitefish Duals at home.

Columbia Falls lead with 5-0 in dual action. Eureka was 3-1, followed by Whitefish, then Browning at 1-3, Frenchtown was 0-2, and Bigfork 0-4.

“They wrestled well,” Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle said of his mat men.

“The last couple of weeks they have been wrestling as a team, doing everything as a team and doing better.”

Prior to that, he said his wrestlers had an individual mindset.

Whitefish had won six straight duals until falling to Frenchtown on Friday, 27-19.

He said a 38-36 dual win at Frenchtown on Jan. 15 is when the team turned the corner.

The Bulldogs followed that by going 4-2 last weekend at the Central A Duals in Belgrade.

“We haven’t been preaching wins,” Boyle said.

“We have goals on the board, we’re focusing on scoring points and learning from our mistakes.”

This marked the first time Whitefish has hosted the duals.

“We just wanted more matches,” Boyle said.

“In the past, we had maybe one dual, two duals at the end of the season before divisionals.”

Whitefish fell to Polson in A Northwestern dual Saturday in Polson, 51-15. Ronan defeated Whitefish in a dual the same day, 60-9.

Bulldogs Judah Prestegaard and Matt Sampson lead the team against Polson and Ronan.

Prestegaard pinned Noah Humphrey in the 160-pound matchup in 2:41 against Polson. Sampson won by decision over Polson’s Colton Cote, 7-4.

Sampson pinned Ronan’s Steven Michal in 4:40. Prestegaard won by decision over Ronan’s Jessie Herrer, 8-2.

The Bulldogs head to Polson for the Northwestern A divisional tournament on Saturday.
