Remedies spa lands in new downtown building
It’s noticeably quieter at Remedies Day Spa these days.
Now under new management, the spa moved last month from the location it shared with Amazing Crepes on Central Avenue to a new space inside The Galleries building at the corner of Second Street and Baker Avenue. The hustle and bustle of a busy cafe has been traded for a more hushed and spa-like experience.
“It was just time to grow,” Remedies manager Sydney Newbury said of the decision to move. “It was really loud and busy over there. We liked the flow, but it was really hard for customers to come in and try to relax for a massage when there are dishes banging on the other side of the wall. Now, it’s much more private.”
More spacious, too.
Customers entering the new spa are greeted by a warm and inviting environment.
Large windows and high ceilings allow natural light to flood the reception area. A full line of Remedies’ all-natural products are made at a work station right up front. Three comfy pedicure and manicure stations line the back wall and offer views toward town and Big Mountain.
Soon, the spa will have a hanging herb garden that will provide basil, mint and other greens for their products and refreshments.
“People really like the natural aspect about our spa,” said lead therapist Jessica How. “We look at the body with a holistic approach and use only natural products.”
Everything is free of chemicals and preservatives, even the nail polish, she added.
“There are a lot of spas in the valley, but I think that’s what sets us a part,” said How.
Just past the reception are four private massage and facial rooms, including a new couple’s room that’s large enough for two massage tables.
How says Remedies is best known for their hot stone massages.
“It’s really great in the wintertime when you’re coming in from the cold,” she said. “It’s really relaxing and warms you up. That’s my absolute favorite. I want a deep tissue with hot stones — that’s the best.”
Along with massage, facials, manicure and pedicure, Remedies is now also offering aromatherapy, and eyelash and brow extensions.
Both How and Newbury say they’ll miss coming to work to the smell of delicious crepes on the grill.
“But now we just go over there whenever we want,” said How.
Besides, rumor has it that a bakery is looking to open next door to their new location.
“I’m sure I’ll be sneaking over there, too,” How joked.
Remedies is open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., with evenings and early mornings by appointment.
