Triathlon

The Whitefish Lake Triathlon, sponsored by the Kalispell Athletic Club, is set for Aug. 16 beginning at 9 a.m. at City Beach in Whitefish. The sprint distance race features a half-mile open water swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run.

Beginner or experienced athletes are welcome at the medium to difficult level race.

Race entry is open until the day of the race with fees at $63 for solo athletes and $180 for teams of three until Aug. 12. Late registration fees are $70 for solo and $195 for teams.

A pre-race meeting and packet pickup will be Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at City Beach.

Big Mountain Run

The Glacier Nordic Club will hold its 33rd annual Big Mountain Run on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. The race will start at the Danny On trailhead at Whitefish Mountain Resort and end at the summit — a 3.8 mile course.  Runners will compete for the title King and Queen and Prince and Princess of the Mountain. Dogs, with a runner, will compete for Dam and Sire of the Mountain. Hikers are welcome. All runners finishing the course in a time less than their age (women - age plus 10 minutes) qualify for the Birthday Club and receive a cupcake. All registered runners (except dogs) receive a free chair lift ride back to the base. The cost is $15 per individual, $35 per family, $8 Juniors (16 and under).
