Michael D. Hower, Sr.

Michael D. “Mike” Hower, Sr., 51, of Berwick, Maine, died unexpectedly on Friday morning, July 31, 2015 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH.

He was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 11, 1964, the son of William A. Hower and Marilyn Rose (Munsey) Hower.

He grew up in Whitefish attending local schools. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Yeoman aboard USS Fulton (AS-11), homeported in Groton, Conn.

While serving in Groton, he met his future wife, Tamara J. Bartlett. They were married on Dec. 15, 1984.

Mike and Tamara moved to Maine during his enlistment. For the past 10 years, Mike worked as sales manager for Gagne and Sons Concrete Products at the Kittery, Maine location.

Mike was an avid hockey fan. He was past president of the Dover Youth Hockey Association, where he was very active as a coach. He shared his passion for hockey and the Boston Bruins with his son Michael, Jr.

When not working or coaching hockey, Mike enjoyed family time, boating, and spending time at the family’s camp at Square Pond. He enjoyed his brother-in-law Scott’s Harley Davidson, and muscle cars, especially their Corvette, where he and Tamara enjoyed rides to York Beach.

Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tamara Hower of Berwick; his son, Michael D. Hower, Jr., of Berwick; his parents, William and Marilyn Hower of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; his sister, Debbie Schmidt and husband Rod of Whitefish; sister-in-law, Jami Berube of Berwick; nephews, Cohen Berube and Josh Schmidt; niece, Kali Schmidt, and his faithful dog Baxter, and granddog Crosby.

A funeral service will be held at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Springvale, Maine.
