'Family tees' at WLGC
Whitefish Lake Golf Club has installed new tee markers that can be used for the entire family. The new dark blue tees are about the size of a round dinner plate and placed on each hole so the family can play together.
On most of the par-4s the new tees can be found somewhere close to 200 yards from the green. On par-3s they are closer.
This is a new idea designed to encourage families to play the game together and allow the youngsters a chance to hit the green in fewer shots. Whitefish Lake Golf Club has the lowest rates around for junior players and family memberships are also a bargain.
I still remember the day my seven year old grandson called and said he made a par from a real tee. In that case it happened to be the forward tee, but to him it was a real tee. Now we want all kids to have a chance to get a par from a real tee, as can beginners to the game. We hope this idea catches on so we can add more “family tees” and encourage more people to play golf.
Highway construction
Plans now call for the Highway 93 project west of the golf course to be paved in mid-August, or sooner if the underground utilities are completed. Look for the sidewalks and bike paths to be paved very soon as well. Once the paths are in, the parameter fence for the golf course will be installed. Our fence on the North Course will be a six-foot high green clad, cyclone fence all along the new highway and next to the bike path.
Mounds to be sodded
The mounds adjacent to the No. 1 fairway on the North Course are going to be sodded in the next couple of weeks. The top soil has been delivered by Schellinger Construction and spread by our crew along with our irrigation system being expanded to cover the new areas that are to be sodded. The Bluegrass sod will be provided by the Montana Department of Transportation and installed by their landscapers.
