University of Montana senior Derek Crittenden has been voted by his peers as a captain of the Grizzly football team this season.

A 2010 graduate of Whitefish High School, Crittenden says it’s an honor to be named captain.

“I love these guys. We’re all really tight. It’s very exciting to be the head of that,” Crittenden said.

The 6-3, 240-pound defensive end is a double major in chemistry and mathematics holding a 4.0 GPA. He was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America team.

Crittenden was also believed to be in the running to be the next to wear the No. 37 jersey, speaking volumes of what his teammates think of his play on the field.

Griz senior Jamaal Jones also was voted captain.
