Dora Lee Dode Ostrom Wolf
Dora Lee “Dode” Ostrom Wolf, 80, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Brendan House in Kalispell.
Dode was born on Jan. 25, 1935, in Plains to Logan and Hazel (McAdam) Ostrom. She joined three brothers, George, Richey and Alva.
She started her early years at the Flathead mine west of Kalispell. The family then moved to Kalispell in 1945. She graduated from high school there in 1953; following was two years of education at the University of Montana. Dode worked for the JCPenny Company in Kalispell for several years. She also taught school at Foy’s Lake for a year.
In 1959 she married Carl Wolf and moved to Whitefish. Dode started skiing on Big Mountain when the only way up to the ski lift was a Jeep motor! Teaching skiing in the early ‘60s was one of the subjects that brought out several comical stories. Dode was an avid golfer and served on the Whitefish Lake Golf Course board of directors. She won the Ladies Golf Club Championship four times. She would get up at 5 a.m. and go to the starters box in her jammies to get the best tee time for her friends! Only God, Lee Trevino and Dode Wolf could hit a one iron!
Dode was famous for her storytelling around campfires and numerous fishing trips. She was notorious for the one liners that would come out of that witty, resourceful brain of hers. She was definitely one in a million! She lived life her way and never worried what anyone else thought. What an amazing woman!
Dode started her own obituary which stated, “If there’s anything you kids want to add that’s OK. I could go on and on about how wonderful I was, but I don’t know how much would be true and what would be B.S. You know how I loved to tell stories. I loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. But I loved my children more than fishing!”
She definitely loved her family ‘cuz we all know how much she loved fishing.
Dode was preceded in death by her parents; brother Alva in 1951, in the Korean War; and brother Richie in 1985.
She is survived by her three children, daughter Teri Wolf and Gerald Zieg of Missoula, daughter Tami and Vern Down of Auburn, California, and son Matt Wolf of Whitefish; brother, George Ostrom, and wife, Iris, of Kalispell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dode also had an uncountable number of wonderful and dear friends.
A gathering of close friends and family was held April 13 at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of Dode’s life will be held at a later date.
