Man denies stealing cash from Subway
A Kalispell man is denying charges that he stole thousands of dollars in cash from the Subway sandwich shop in Whitefish while an employee at the store.
Mason Alexander Hanson, 22, entered a plea of not guilty in Flathead District Court April 9 to charges of felony theft.
According to court documents, the owner of the Subway restaurant called police June 1, 2014 to report an employee stealing from the cash register.
Accounting software notified the owner that transactions were taking place during odd hours. When he looked at surveillance video he allegedly observed Hanson repeatedly taking cash out of the register and often pocketing stacks of money.
The owner alleges more than $2,100 in cash was taken between March 31 and June 1.
The owner also alleges Hanson admitted to taking the money and that he signed an employee warning notification stating he took the cash.
Hanson faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $50,000. A jury trial is set for Sept. 8.
