Whitefish fell behind early and couldn’t catch up as the Bulldogs (2-2) suffered a 34-26 non-conference loss Friday night at Corvallis.

Highly-touted Oregon State University recruit Jesse Sims made his debut for the Blue Devils and punched in a 17-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to keep the Dogs at bay. All-purpose quarterback Jayce Gilder threw for a touchdown and ran for two others to lead the Devils.

Whitefish’s offense racked up 351 yards to Corvallis’ 305 in the defeat.

Receiver Jed Nagler caught a 39-yard scoring pass from Luke May to get Whitefish on the board in the first quarter.

Chris Park scampered 11 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 20-13 at the half.

Nagler tested his arm and tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jack Streibich in the fourth to put the Dogs within reach at 26-20.

A final touchdown pass from May to Streibich came with 1:26 to play.

May finished 16 of 24 throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns. He had two interceptions.

Park carried the ball six times for 33 yards and one score.

Streibich hauled in 141 yards received and two scores, while Nagler had 78 yards receiving. Brian FauntLeRoy caught four passes for 42 yards.
