Lady Dogs second in XC meet

The Lady Bulldog cross-country team placed second at the Ronan Invitational with four runners below the 22-minute mark.

Whitefish finished just behind perennial power Corvallis, the team considered a favorite in Class A.

“They’ve won the past three state titles, and we’d like to be able to run with them by the end of the season,” Whitefish coach Sara Brist said. “Today’s run shows us that we are not that far away.”

Sarah Latcham placed third with an 18:59.

“Sarah continues to close the gap on the leaders,” Brist said.

Barrett Gray clocked a 20:17 to take 11th, and Peyton Twete a 21:32 for 16th. Katie Smith came in at 21:45.

“The rest of the young ladies also are showing us that they should be ready by the time we reach the end of the season,” Brist said.

Brist commended Annika Gordon and Sarah Perez, who placed 24th and 36th, respectively.

“With more races they will continue to move closer to our front part of the pack,” Brist said.

The boys team placed fourth with Keaton Grove (14th), Ethan Lannaghan (15th) and Ethan Potthoff (16th) crossing the finish line together at the front of the pack.

“They all ran very well,” Brist said. “Now, we will try to close the gap between the rest of our guys and our front three.”
