Boys soccer opens with big win

Whitefish’s boys soccer team kicked off the season Friday with an impressive 8-4 road victory at Hamilton.

The Bulldogs responded after letting Hamilton score an early goal in the fourth minute.

Senior captain Jared Johnson found the net in the 25th minute to knot the score, then added another two minutes later off an assist from Taven Edland.

The rout was on when Shanoah Montano connected on the first of his three consecutive scores in the 27th minute.

Montano and Johnson each tallied a hat trick by halftime as the Dogs took the 6-1 lead.

Ben Hirsch scored in the 46th minute and Montano put in his fourth of the day in the 67th to cap the Dogs big day.

Montano scored nine goals in all of 2013.

Whitefish keeper Sam Benkleman tallied a dozen saves in the win.

The Dogs host Corvallis on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at Smith Fields.
