Phase 2 of the massive Highway 93 West reconstruction project is halfway complete as the end of road work season nears.

Utilizing a 24-hour schedule, crews with general contractor Schellinger Construction continue to chip away at the $10.28 million state project to revamp the west entrance to Whitefish.

Work is set to wrap up for the season on Nov. 15.

Project manager Marc Blanden says his crews are right on schedule.

A pair of pedestrian tunnels beneath the roadway were put in place last week. This week, crews will place gravel, pour curbs and build retaining walls from Karrow Avenue to Grouse Mountain Lodge.

Pavement between Karrow and Fairway Drive could go down as early as Nov. 5.

Blanden says sidewalks won’t be poured this year, but a gravel path should be in place for the winter.

The road project includes building a wider highway, new bike paths and sidewalks, a new storm drain system, water system, and sanitary sewer system. The phase begins at Karrow Avenue and ends at Mountainside Drive near Michael’s auto repair shop.

The spring construction season begins April 15.
