Whitefish wrapped up a perfect run through Northwest A play with a 45-0 win over Libby on Friday night at the Dog Pound.

Conference championship T-shirts were handed out after the final whistle as players and coaches relished the moment in front of the home crowd.

“All of us have been playing together since we were little,” junior quarterback Luke May said after the win. “Now we’re here. It’s great to bring a winning tradition back to Whitefish. It feels really good. It’s been a blast.”

As a top seed, Whitefish (7-2, 4-0) earns a bye in the first round of the State A playoffs. They will host Nov. 8 the winner of the first-round match-up between No. 2 Miles City and No. 3 Havre.

The Loggers were simply outmatched and undermanned Friday with only four subs on the sideline. The game was the final meeting between the two teams as Libby drops to Class B next season.

May led Whitefish’s balanced offensive attack, going a perfect 5-for-5 passing with 123 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 66 yards and two scores.

Brian FauntLeRoy and Chris Park led the ground attack.

Park ran in a 21-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give Whitefish a 21-0 lead.

FauntLeRoy picked up 69 yards rushing and had a 58-yard TD run in the second quarter to put Whitefish on top 35-0.

Junior Jed Nagler and senior Jack Streibich each hauled in TD passes. Senior Vinny Smith recorded a 25-yard reception.

The Dogs defense held Libby to 49 yards rushing and 76 yards passing. Whitefish had three sacks and Park picked off one pass.

May likes the way his team is playing going into the playoffs.

“We trying to polish everything, and trying to play our best football at the end of the season — because that’s what really counts,” he said.

May said the team will stay focused on the bye week and prepare for the next opponent.

“We’re just going to practice hard and be ready — no matter who we’re playing,” he said.
