The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for “Shakespeare: Next Generation,” an all-youth production that will be performed in mid-November.

Auditions are for young actors in grades 5 through 9 and will take place Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Students are encouraged to arrive early to fill out an audition application and review the audition selections.

“Shakespeare: Next Generation” will feature talented area youth applying stylized physical movement and distinctive vocal techniques to shortened scenes of several of Shakespeare’s plays. Students will explore battles, triumphs, tragedies, and affections of several characters as they learn to perform some of Shakespeare’s most famous passages.

As a Black Curtain Theatre production, set and costumes are minimal and actors will remain on book.

The cast of Shakespeare - Next Generation will be composed of up to 15 kids. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided.

Rebecca Schaffer is the director. New scenes and unique instruction will make this play worth participating in again, even if students were in the show last year. Total time commitment for this production is approximately three weeks of rehearsal. Rehearsals will be held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the O’Shaughnessy Center from 4 to 6 p.m. There are two performances on Nov. 15 and 16.
