Whitefish football can lock down the Northwest A conference title on Friday with a win at Frenchtown. The Bulldogs haven’t won the conference since 2002.

Whitefish coach Chad Ross said this week he’ll emphasis to his players what winning a conference championship would mean for the Bulldog football program.

“They don’t understand the gravity of it yet,” he said. “This week, we will emphasize it, we’ll explain it to them.”

Frenchtown (3-4, 2-1) is coming off a tough 41-0 whooping by Columbia Falls on Friday. The Broncs tallied just 161 yards of total offense in the game.

Frenchtown’s conference wins came against Libby and Polson.

Ross says this is another game that comes down to winning the battle in the trenches. Frenchtown leads the league with 1,645 yards rushing this season.

“If we control the line, and don’t get pushed around, we can win this game,” Ross said. “Our offense is going to score. We have proven we can score against anyone.”

Keep an eye on senior running back Gus Butler who leads Frenchtown in scoring. Butler rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in 2013.

The Dogs handled the Broncs last season with a 28-6 win at the Dog Pound.
