The Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau and Whitefish Chamber of Commerce have stepped out in support of the city passing a “no hate” ordinance.

The groups issued a statement on the matter on Monday, saying they stand by the request from citizens who spoke at a Nov. 17 rally organized by Loves Lives Here in the Flathead Valley.

“We honor all citizens and visitors’ right to free speech while we adamantly disapprove of discrimination,” the statement reads. “We support our community and the efforts of the local group, Love Lives Here, who are working to highlight the inclusive values our community is built upon. Whitefish always has been, and always will be, a place where people feel welcome with warm hospitality.”

“Tolerance, diversity, open-mindedness, acceptance, compassion and kindness, are community values esteemed by our organizations. We will continue to thrive on our reputation of a small mountain town with a friendly nature, showcasing incredible scenery, offering exhilarating experiences by day and relaxing hospitality by night, and welcoming people from around the world.”
