Pilot community events calendar Nov. 12-18
• The City of Whitefish hosts planning firm Crandall Arambula in a public meeting to discuss proposed updates to the Downtown Master Plan on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center.
• Soroptimist International of Whitefish will hold a “Wear It Again” jewelry sale Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Whitefish Community Library.
Sale hours are from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
All proceeds will help the nonprofit Whitefish Soroptimist club in its mission of improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
The sale will feature more than 1,000 pieces of jewelry, including sterling silver, gold, pearls, rhinestones, vintage and collectible pieces, watches, one-of-a-kind items, bargains for beaders and lots of jewelry boxes. Door prizes will be given away and drawings will be held throughout the two-day sale.
New this year is a “bling” table and a wide assortment of Southwest turquoise jewelry.
Whitefish Soroptimists operate the Soroptimist Thrift Haus at 303 First St. in Whitefish and have been collecting donated jewelry for this sale over the past year. Anyone wanting to donate jewelry items may drop them off prior to the sale at the Thrift Haus during store hours, noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
All proceeds from the Thrift Haus are donated to a variety of nonprofit groups.
• November is adopt a senior pet month at the Flathead County Animal Shelter. Adoption fees are only $45 for senior dogs and $25 for senior cats. These adoptions fees include vaccinations, spaying/neutering and microchipping. The shelter is open to the public Tuesdays – Fridays noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The shelter is located at 225 Cemetery Road, south of Kalispell, off of Highway 93 South. • DREAM Adaptive and the Joe Stone Foundation present “An Evening of Inspiration with Joe Stone” on Nov. 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. The evening includes a 45 minute documentary of Joe’s journey through life as a quadriplegic. Beer, wine, snacks, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit DREAM Adaptive Recreation programs and the Joe Stone Foundation as they work to provide outdoor opportunities and adaptive equipment for those with varied abilities. Tickets are $20 available at Park Side Credit Union, Glacier Bank or Snappy’s Sport Senter.
• The fifth annual Ladies Night Out in downtown Whitefish is set for Friday, Nov. 14 from 5-9 p.m. Visit five participating merchants and be entered to wind a gift basket.
• Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol hosts the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour at the Flathead High School Auditorium on Nov. 18 and 19 at 7p.m. Come see the films on the new high resolution projection screen. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at Rocky Mountain Outfitters, Sportsman & Ski Haus in Kalispell & Whitefish, The White Room Mountain Shop, and Runner Up Sports. $20 at the door the night of the shows. This is the Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol’s major fundraiser of the year.
• Join author and historianSharon Randolph as she presents a special program Monday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whitefish Community Library.Take yourself back to the early days of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park as she recounts the stories of early homesteaders, prospectors and explorers as they experienced the wilds of the Rockies by foot and horseback.
• Crews this week will be drilling geo-technical holes under the current City Hall site to investigate soils and foundations for the future City Hall and arking structure. There will be some partial closures of the parking lot behind City Hall (and behind Montana Coffee Traders) during the week of Nov. 11-18.
• The Chocolate Extravaganza, sponsored by the Flathead County Republican Women is scheduled for Dec. 3 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Kalispell, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event features a delicious lunch, holiday music and delectable chocolates. Chocolate entries will be judged by a panel of judges and will be available for purchase during the luncheon. Tickets are now available for $20 and tables of 10 guests can be reserved in advance by calling Mary Weston at 752-6431. Valet parking will be available.
• Joe Coco presents a free seminar “Investment Strategies for Uncertain Times” on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. at the Coco Enterprises Conference Center in Whitefish.
• Whitefish Shines, with the help of community volunteers, Flathead Electric Coop., and the City of Whitefish, will hang the Whitefish Christmas and winter decorations on Sunday, Nov. 23. Volunteers should meet at the fire bays behind City Hall in downtown Whitefish at 8:30 a.m. Dress for cool weather and bring gloves. • The Whitefish book discussion group will meet for its planning session for books to be considered for reading for next year at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the Whitefish Community Library.
• The Town Pump Charitable Foundation hopes to raise over $3 million in its 13th annual fundraising campaign for food banks across Montana, including the North Valley Food Bank in Whitefish. Town Pump will match up to $500,000 in contributions to participating Montana food banks made now through Nov. 30. The Foundation will match up to $5,000 on behalf of the North Valley Food Bank, and all funds raised in Whitefish will remain in the community. Donations for the campaign are being collected at the Whitefish Town Pump and Lucky Lil’s Casino. Donations also can be sent directly to North Valley Food Bank, 251 Flathead Ave., in Whitefish, 59937.
• The annual Whitefish Christmas Stroll is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12 in downtown Whitefish. Businesses can reserve a vendor space for $35. Register with the Whitefish Chamber at 862-3501, or online at www.whitefishchamber.org
• A Whitefish Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20 in the gym at The Wave from noon to 5 p.m. The American Red Cross continues to face a blood shortage, leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types. Appointments are recommended and a blood donor card or a driver’s license is required. To schedule an appointment call Jean at 862-4332. It is suggested that you eat a hardy meal and drink plenty of water prior to making a blood donation. Snacks and juices will be provided after you give blood. This is the last Blood Drive for this year. The next one will be in January of 2015
