A new mixed-use building going up in the Railway District will offer retail space and apartments.

The project on Lupfer Avenue is being developed by Whitefish resident Richard Spencer and his mother Sherry Spencer.

The ground level floor will include two commercial spaces about 3,025 square feet each. The second floor will feature four apartment units.

In an application to the city planning department, Sherry Spencer says the building design will “emphasis the character and feel of the Railway District.”

“We hope to contribute to the revitalization of the neighborhood,” she wrote.

A gable front of the building will mimic the nearby Knit and Needle building, and all design standards conform to city code, Sherry noted.

Access to the commercial space will include pedestrian streetscaping, “that we hope adds to the life of the neighborhood.”

A house previously at the site was jacked up and trucked away last summer.

A foundation for the new building is currently under construction.
