Mitchell elected county commissioner

Republican Phil Mitchell swept into office Tuesday when voters overwhelmingly chose him over Democrat Stacey Schnebel as the new Flathead County Commissioner.

Mitchell, of Whitefish, picked up 67 percent of the vote.

Democrat Ed Lieser was elected to Whitefish’s House District 5, defeating Republican Doug Adams. Lieser garnered 55 percent of the vote.

Republican Carl Glimm was elected to rural Whitefish’s House District 6, easily defeating David Fischlowitz.

Voter turnout in Flathead County was 51 percent.
