WHS graduation to be held in new gym
Whitefish High School’s commencement ceremony will return to the school’s gymnasium this year. The ceremony is Saturday, June 7.
The class of 2014, which includes 114 graduates, will graduate inside the school’s remodeled gymnasium. Last year’s ceremony was moved to Majestic Valley Arena because of construction work.
The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
While construction in the gym is complete, work still continues on the new high school building. This means that parking around the school is limited.
Members of the senior class will meet at the middle school prior to the ceremony and ride busses to the high school to help with the parking issue, according to assistant principal Jackie Fuller.
“Parking will be a challenge,” she said. “We’re looking into using golf carts to deliver people to the door.”
This year’s class is the 100th to earn diplomas from the school. The first class to graduate in 1914 included only one member. According to an article in the May 28, 1914 edition of the Pilot, Dorcas Ferguson was the first to graduate from the school after having completed four years of courses.
Baccalaureate will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6 at the gym.
The Whitefish Independent High School will hold its graduation ceremony Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at the Hope Outdoor Classroom at Muldown Elementary. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Whitefish Performing Arts Center at the middle school.
