Junior golf program begins June 17
Whitefish Lake Golf Club’s annual junior golf program begins on Tuesday, June 17 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for the 7-8 year old group. This age group will meet on June 17-19 at the Grouse Mountain soccer field for activities and golf skills training.
Also on Tuesday, June 17, the 12-14 year old age group will have their first session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the WLGC practice facility. This age group will meet again on June 24, July 1, 8 and 15.
The 9-11 year old age group of boys and girls will have their program on June 24-26 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. each morning of that week.
Thanks to the Gary Norby Junior Golf Foundation all junior golf sessions are totally free with equipment provided as needed. All players are asked to pre-register in the Golf Shop prior to starting the junior golf program.
Bulldog Open
The Bulldog Open is set for Sunday, June 15. The entry fee is only $60 per player and includes lunch, evening barbecue and prizes.
The Bulldog Open is the major fundraiser for Junior Golf and the WHS golf team.
There are several divisions available including mens, womens, open and couples.
The low net score overall winners will be awarded new watches courtesy of First Interstate Bank.
Players may sign up to play in the morning shotgun start, which is 7:30 a.m., or the 1:30 p.m. starting time for those preferring the afternoon time on Father’s Day.
New greens
The two newly remodeled greens on hole Nos. 2 and 6 of the North Course officially opened for play on Tuesday.
Both greens may look somewhat like their former appearance, but both have had significant changes to their surfaces and number No. 6 the surrounds are also different.
The opening date coincides with spring maintenance practices on the South Course. The South Course will be closed on June 20-22 for aeration and topdressing.
Junior qualifier
Whitefish Lake Golf Club will once again host the Montana State District 1 junior qualifier for ages up to 17. The top four finishers from the district move on to play for the state championship in their age group. The top four at the state level will qualify to represent Montana in the prestigious America’s Cup competition later in the summer.
