Whitefish softball put another notch in the win column May 5 with a convincing nonconference victory over Shelby.

Kenzie Carl connected on a double and went 3 for 4 at the dish to lead the Bulldogs over Shelby 10-6. Jordan Sletten went the distance in the pitching circle to earn the win.

Whitefish coach Carrie Lamb called it a solid team effort.

“It was a good match up for us,” said Lamb. “It’s the first time our girls have set the tempo of the game.”

“We made defensive plays and got batters on base. The girls persevered and were able to pull off the team win.”

The coach commended the play of Madi Davis at catcher.

“She stepped up big time for us,” Lamb said.

With Davis behind the plate, standout Malia Morris is back at her natural position in center field.

Lamb said Sletten has been aggressive in the pitching circle for the Dogs.

“She doesn’t give up much and throws a nice ball,” Lamb said.

Last week the Lady Dogs put up their best fight against top-rated Frenchtown. The Broncs won 19-1, but Whitefish didn’t back down.

“I really patted the girls on the back after that one,” Lamb said. “They were excited and ready to take them on. Frenchtown is a good team and good program. They play a respectful game.”

Lamb says her team is improving each week.

“We’re holding teams to 10 runs and playing full games,” she said. “The defense is on and we’ve got great team chemistry.”

This weekend Whitefish travels to Butte. The Dogs’ other win this season came in a 25-3 romp over Browning on April 22.
