Dogs top Class A team at Archie Roe

Whitefish’s boys and girls track teams led the way among Class A schools at the competitive Archie Roe Invitational on Saturday in Kalispell.

The Lady Dogs finished third with 79 points, behind Class AA Glacier and Flathead.

Senior Marlow Schulz swept the sprint races and matched her meet record in the 100-meter dash with a 12.50. However, she wasn’t awarded a record because of a malfunction with the electronic timing device. The 100 and 800 had to be hand timed, throwing off the official marks.

Still, her time was well below the Class A qualifying standard.

Schulz has swept the sprints at the Archie Roe meet for three of the past four years. She also was named the meet’s top female athlete for the third time.

Also impressive in the sprints, Grace Kurtz snagged second in the 400, third in the 200, and fourth in the 100 against an impressive field.

Phoebe Guercio placed second in the long jump and 300 hurdles, and sixth in 100 hurdles and triple jump to help the girls pile up points.

Bekah Weaver cleared 9-0 in pole vault to take second place.

A couple of top performances helped lift the boys team to fourth place overall with 69 points.

Luke Cardon scored a win in the 400 with a 52.47, and Luke May placed first in javelin with a throw of 185-11. May’s throw far exceeded the Class A qualifying standard.

Koler Kanistanaux placed second in the 100 and qualified for state with a 11.40.

Jed Nagler took third in the 200 with a 23.57, and fifth in the 400.

Keaton Grove placed third and Alex Wilson fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Gage Smith went for 144-3 in discus to place third overall.
