Eleanor Taylor, 85, died March 1 in Whitefish. A memorial service will be held at a future time in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Eleanor was born on April 25, 1928 to William Frederick, Sr., and Elizabeth Helen (Osgood) Trost in Staten Island, New York. She grew up in the home where she was born with her siblings, her parents, and grandparents. Her parents spoke German in the home, though she never picked it up herself. After she graduated from high school in 1946 she joined the U.S. Navy and moved to Seattle to work as a disbursing clerk seaman at the Naval Supply Depot on Pier 91. Here she met and married Stanley P. Taylor on Aug. 11, 1950.

She was enlisted in the USN for 2 1/2 years, but she was a Navy wife for 20 years. As the Taylor family grew to include four children, they moved all across the country, including Millington, Tenn., Maine, Long Beach, Calif., Mount Pleasant and Marion in Iowa, and San Jose, Calif. She especially loved living in Southern California, and enjoyed spending her days at the beach with the kids.

Eleanor called San Jose “home” for 40 years, where her kids and grandkids were always close. She completed her AA degree from De Anza College in the late 1970s. She worked at Dole food company division of Castle and Cooke for 10 years before retiring in the late 1980s and then enjoyed spending her time golfing, gardening, and visiting with friends. In 2008 she moved to Whitefish and lived out the rest of her days near her daughter, Janis.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bean of San Jose; daughter, Janis Taylor (Andy Brown) of Whitefish; grandson, Christian Ausborne of San Jose; grandson, Josh Ausborne (Melanie) of Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Tiffany Taylor of San Jose; granddaughter, Lauren Bean of San Jose; brother William Frederick Trost, Jr. of St. Petersburg Florida; sister, Jean (William) Zahoruiko of Massachusetts ; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Ausborne (2012); son, Lloyd Taylor (2011); son-in-law, Larry Bean (2005); twin brother, Floyd Trost (2011).
