The Wave is full of activity, regardless of the ladders and construction zones still scattered throughout the building. The fitness center has finally begun to wrap up the redesign on its building.

“We took our customers’ suggestions to heart,” said The Wave director Art Krueger. “After all, it is our job to make this place nice for them.”

Over the past 10 months, The Wave has implemented construction that has been in planning for more than two years.

The fitness center added 10,000 square feet of new area, including a new juice bar, childcare center, revamped locker rooms, and a group fitness studio that doubled the size of the previous studio.

The goal of the remodel was not to make huge additions, but to expand on what The Wave already had to offer, Krueger explained. He said patrons grow tired of the same routines and are always looking for new, exciting workouts. The new fitness studio even adds LED lights to the workout classes to help dancers feel the music.

Another improvement with the remodel is the introduction of the Synrgy360 Life Fitness System. The Wave added a new room to their weight lifting area to house the full-body workout system.

“It’s basically an adult playground,” said Krueger. “It adds a whole new venue to work out on.”

The Synrgy system encompasses various ways to work out, including monkey bars, to incorporate all areas of the body and fitness.

While all the renovations are not complete, The Wave expects to have everything finished in the next couple of months, before the fall season.

This is the second expansion for The Wave. Work was completed in 2007 to add 4,700 square feet to the building to expand the weight room and cycling room and add an exercise room.

The Wave first opened in 2005 and was deeded to the city with the agreement that it would be leased back to The Wave nonprofit organization for operation of the fitness center.
