Pilot calendar: Bluegrass Bash on Saturday

Celebrate the longest day of the year June 21 at the Summer Solstice Bluegrass Bash at the Whitefish Community Center. Live music from Trapline Band, a barbecue dinner with all the sides and beer/wine for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Gates opens at 5 p.m. This is a rain or shine event. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, kids 5-12 are $10, kids under 5 are free. This is a fundraiser for the community center. The 37th annual Whitefish Lake Run is set for Saturday, June 28 at 8 a.m. The 10k race begins on East Lakeshore Drive and ends at City Beach. The 5K race begins and ends at City Beach. Register at www.whitefishlakerun.com. Nearly 40 volunteers are needed. Every registered and confirmed volunteer will receive a T-shirt. The annual Soroptomist Park neighborhood potluck and clean up party will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. Bring a potluck dish to share, plates and utensils, work gloves, and gardening tools. For more information, call Jan Metzmaker at 862 7960.

The North Valley Food Bank hosts an Open House on June 23 at 4:30 p.m. to celebrate the completion of their new building and the volunteers that make it all happen.

This month’s Whitefish Chamber of Commerce’s Gone Fishin’ is being co-hosted by Trails West Real Estate and First Interstate Bank on June 19 from 5-7 p.m. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and door prizes. Free and open to the public.

Workshop of Wonders Community Vacation Bible School opens its doors June 23-26 at the Whitefish United Methodist Church. From 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, children will try science experiments, create fun crafts and take part in community projects. Snack provided. Farming For The Future Academy, Inc will be holding three summer camps in the garden at the Montana Veterans’ Home. Campers will be learning how to build earthen pizza ovens, chicken tractors and rabbit tractors. For registration and information go to www.farmingforthefutureacademyinc.org.

The Big Sky Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society presents Whitefish Woody Weekend III on June 27-29. The event, hosted by the Lodge at Whitefish Lake, will feature 37 classic wood boats from all over the Pacific Northwest, including six award winners from the 2013 ACBS International Show.

There will be a wood boat cruise around Whitefish Lake on June 27 at 8 p.m. Boats will be on public display June 28 at the Lodge between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The boats will participate in a poker run around Whitefish Lake on June 28. The events are free and open to the public.

Event organizers are looking for volunteers who would be interested in manning their dock as one of the card stops in the Sunday morning poker run. If you have a dock on Whitefish Lake and would like to participate in the event by manning a card stop, please contact Tim Salt at 862-5085.

The Glacier Institute will lead guided hike that studies the recovery and current status of wolves in Glacier Park. Meet at the Glacier Park Field Camp meeting hall at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 22. Cost is $65. The hike is rated as moderate with on-trail and off-trail hikes up to 3 miles. Register by calling 755-1211 or www.glacierinstitute.org.
