Road reconstruction work along East Second Street between Larch Avenue and Edgewood Drive will begin Monday, June 9.

The $2.8 million project, funded largely with city resort tax revenue, is expected to continue through September.

The grade of the hill east of the Armory Road intersection will be reduced and a bike path will be built on the south side of the street. Work includes clearing brush and trees, replacement of water, sewer and storm-drain facilities, construction of a bike path, new street lighting and new pavement with curb and gutter.

During construction, travel along East Second will be limited to local one-way traffic only. Wedgewood Lane and Birch Drive will remain two-way with unobstructed access from Dodger Lane.

Reduced traffic speeds and delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to use the posted Armory Road and Dodger Lane detours. Expect rough roadway surfaces and large equipment near travel lanes.

Pedestrians and bicyclists will be required to use another route.

The dog park, skatepark and Armory will remain open during the course of the project.
