Mitchell ousts incumbent commissioner; Democrats choose Schnebel

Phil Mitchell rolled to victory over incumbent Cal Scott in the Republican primary for the Flathead County Commissioner.

Mitchell, a former Whitefish City Councilor, picked up 70 percent of the vote in the June 3 election. He tallied 9,193 votes compared to Scott’s 3,753.

In the Democratic primary for the same seat, Stacey Schnebel also picked up 70 percent of the vote to top Jack Garlitz. She tallied 2,068 votes compared to 849 for Garlitz.

Mitchell and Schnebel will square off in the general election.In Whitefish's House District 5, Doug Adams won the Republican nomination over John Michael Myers. Adams, also a former Whitefish City Councilor, earned 66 percent of the vote.

He will face incumbent Democrat Rep. Ed Lieser, who ran unopposed but still tallied 520 votes.

Whitefish voters also approved a review of the city government, favoring the issue by 58 percent to 42 percent. All local governments vote every 10 years on whether to institute a review of the current form of government.
