Twins head to districts on upswing
The Glacier Twins are peaking at just the right time. Glacier knocked off rival Kalispell A three times last week to set a positive tone heading into the District Tournament.
Glacier’s offense erupted July 19 as the Twins rolled over Kalispell 14-2 at Griffin Field. The Twins posted 17 hits in the impressive road victory.
On July 17, Glacier upended Kalispell 7-4 at Memorial Field.
Glacier took the lead in the third inning. Colten Parker put down a great bunt to move Colton Gove into scoring position. Vincent Smith reached on an RBI infield single, and a Kalispell throwing error put Glacier up 2-0.
The Lakers answered with three runs in the fourth, but Jayce Fagerland’s two-out RBI-single pushed Glacier back on top for good.
AJ Wetsch finished with two hits. Austin Robins fanned seven and allowed just three hits in five innings of work on the mound.
On July 17, the Twins hammered Havre 11-1 in a blowout victory.
On July 16, Glacier rallied to take down Kalispell 14-13 at Griffin Field.
Glacier scored four runs in the eighth inning to snag the one-run lead.
Smith was 4 for 4 with four RBI at the dish, hitting a double and triple in the win. Parker, Kyler Howke and Robins all earned two-hit games with one RBI.
The District Tournament is July 23-26 in Kalispell. The Twins open with Kootenai Valley at 10 a.m. Wednesday. If they win, they play the winner of the Missoula-Bitterroot Bucs game. The Twins were 13-8 in conference play and in fourth place in the conference heading into the tournament. Bitterroot is the top seed at 15-5.
