New fireworks law brings a peaceful Fourth

I am very pleased with the Whitefish City Council’s new ordinance regarding fireworks. This is the first year in my memory that there were limited days of legal use.

The council is to be commended for creating a resident-friendly situation that allowed for people to set them off, but limited the amount of times it could be done.

It was stated that there would be a “zero tolerance” policy regarding infractions of the stated guidelines and the police would act on complaints to enforce the policy.

I am happy to report that the Whitefish police responded immediately to the complaints made by me and my neighbors on June 30 and July 1. The officer found the offenders and cited them for illegally blowing off fireworks. The noise stopped and we had no more disturbances.

Thank you city council and Whitefish police.
