An 800-pound boulder hit Glacier Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road on Wednesday night, just a few hours after the road opened to vehicle traffic for the summer.

At about 10:30 p.m., Park dispatch received a report of a large pile of snow and a very large boulder blocking the west-bound lane of the road 1.5 miles west of Logan Pass. No injuries or damage were reported.

Road crews cleared the snow and boulder by 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Sun Road opened to vehicle access to Logan Pass at 8 p.m. Wednesday night. Travelers along the road are reminded to drive with care. Standing or walking on snow along the road is strongly discouraged, as is parking or stopping in areas of snow located above the road.
